We work with respected and trusted Shipiba Healers who travel from the jungles of Pucallpa, their native land, to join us in these sacred mountains for a deep healing journey.
The shipibo are a beautiful tribe of about 35,000 people in the basin of the amazon jungle in Peru. They live in various villages along the Ucayali River.
The Shipibo culture and their relationship with the plants are completely interwoven. Traditional Shipibo healers spend 15-20 years dieting and apprenticing with plant medicines. Spending at times years in isolation dieting different plants. During these diets, the healers receive healing songs from the plants called “ikaros”. After many years of training they can help heal people by removing blockages and dark energies, by singing these medicine songs directly to people during an Ayahuasca ceremony.
Working alongside Ayahuasca and various other master plants, the spirits of the plants support the healers in their healing work. The pharmacopeia that exists in the jungle is an incredible resource that many shipibo healers have. These ceremonies can be a powerful catalyst for healing. The ceremonies will take place at night-time in the dark. Our Maestra will do individual work on each person during ceremonies. It is our commitment to the people attending, that we will hold a safe and supportive space throughout the retreat inside and outside of ceremony.
Anaconda Woman Maestra Amelia is 65 years old and comes from the Amazonian community of Gusta Legre de Pachitea on the Ucayali River. She began working with plant medicines as a young woman under the tutelage of her uncle. Amelia has been through many tragedies, as there have been many deaths in her family, and much destruction and contamination of communities she has lived in. These experiences have only fortified her heart of gold, and her desire to be a conduit of healing. In the 35 years she has been working with the plants, Amelia has become an expert herbalist with an encyclopaedia-like knowledge of the medicinal properties of plants found in Shipibo territories. Amelia also served as a traditional midwife for her community for over 20 years. She brings this wisdom of birth and life and womens medicine into her work as a maestra in the ceremonies as well. She has a gentle and loving character, is full of laughter and is driven by a deep passion for her work.
In a rapidly changing and expanding modern world, it is a true blessing that women such as her still exist today. We feel very blessed and grateful to be able to do this type of work with grandmother wisdom carriers who continue to share the knowledge of Spirit and the Earths kindness with us in ceremony.

The Creators of Tree of Light Retreats:
Tree of Light Retreats is co-created by Naomi and Carolina. They met in the Sacred Valley of Peru, and know in their hearts that the medicine brought them together to create a safe and supportive space for sharing this work. With their many years of experience with Ayahuasca and facilitating others, they have created retreats with the most trusted Shipibo healers and feel deeply called to support others on this path. As Mothers they bring this special energy to the loving and intimate space they hold inside and outside of ceremony. We’re happy to share that for 2016 retreats will be offered February, May, June, July, August, October and November. A couple of these retreats will be opening the space for men to join us as well. Please see our website for details.
This retreat will be facilitated by:
Naomi began her medicine journey years ago when her younger brother went into a psychosis and became very ill. In trying to find a cure, she began seeking out traditional indigenous wisdom and various healing modalities. In her attempt to heal him, she ended up healing herself in the process and changed her entire course of life. She began working with Ayahuasca in 2009, and over the last few years, has been studying fairly intensely, through months of dieta and ceremonies with a traditional Shipibo lineage. She has been working with medicine people and traditional elders for the last 10 years and will continue to do so for the rest of her life.
Naomi is a Group Facilitator, Coach, Yoga teacher, Doula, Artist, Sound healer, Body worker and Herbalist in training. Born in Greece, and raised in the Philippine islands. She spent the last 10 years in Canada creating sacred spaces, organizing major events and running a private bodywork and healing practice. She now lives in Peru with her husband and two beautiful children. Having experienced such profound transformation working with the Plants and the Medicine Ayahuasca, she inspires to create opportunities where others may explore this ancient path. She carries a deep love for the earth and its wisdom, and offers a plethora of skills, knowledge and experience to the table. She is deeply devoted to holding a compassionate, loving and safe space for healing.
You can read more about Naomi and check out some of her stories and travels in her blog. Motherhood, Medicine and the Gypsy Caravan at her personal website NaomiAthena.com
Gisela is a wonderful Peruvian woman who started her journey with the medicine 7 years ago in the Peruvian Jungle. She started and continues to learn with the same shipibo elders, Manuela Mahua and Horacio Brito. She has done 2 traditional tree dietas; Huairacaspi for three months and Ayahuma for 2 months, and continues to deepen her relationship with Ayahuasca through ceremonies and retreats. Two years ago, she started to work as a facilitator on ayahuasca workshops. The medicine had a big impact on her, so she decided to listen and follow her heart’s calling for the medicine more and more and quit her full-time job in a business company in Lima and moved to the Sacred Valley, where she co-founded a holistic Montessori Kindergarten for small kids, where she teaches art and music to the children. She is enjoying life and happily exploring the medicine path.

We feel very blessed to have Amelia as our Maestra for this retreat. Shipibo Ayahuasca ceremonies take place at night time in the dark. The medicine songs that are sung are called “ikaros”. During every ceremony each person will receive individualized work from Amelia, as she sings personally to each person. We believe and have witnessed in our own experiences that this level of care helps to remove blockages and allows for deep healing to take place.
On the morning of the 19th we will begin with vomitivos (a Shipibo tradition to help clean and prepare the body for ceremony). There will be ceremonies on the following days: 19th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, . On ceremony days only breakfast and lunch will be served. There will be floral baths the day after each ceremony. There will be integration meetings to share our experiences, as well as one on one support from Naomi. We also plan for yoga, meditation and hikes. (a daily schedule will be given upon arrival)

Plant Medicines PERU
We have been working with a lineage rooted in the amazon basin of the Ucayali Peru. They are a family called the Mahua. An unbroken lineage of curanderos that dates back thousands of years. The Maestros we work with are true doctors, they are extremely skilled and knowledgeable of the pharmacopoeia of plants available for physical, mental and emotional healing.
I have witnessed “miracles” working with the Mahua Curanderos of the Amazon and continue to be humbled and transformed through every ceremony i am blessed to sit in. Working with this medicine has changed my life. It catapulted me forward in my path and supported me to heal parts of myself that i am not sure i ever would have otherwise. Sitting in ceremony is not necessarily easy, but i cant imagine anything more beautiful than discovering who i really am.
We offer retreats 6 times a year with traditional shipibo healers. Retreats take place in Peru the Sacred Valley or in the Amazon Basin. FEBRUARY, MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, OCTOBER
Ayahuasca according to the Shipibo is a door into the spirit world. In shamanism we connect most of our illnesses to the state of our spirit. If our spirit is not well, we will not be well. We partake of these ceremonies so we may stand in the fullness of who we are. It is however up to you how deep you want to go. Some equate this medicine as skipping years of psychotherapy as you are faced with the shadows you have shied away from your whole life. This medicine is strong, beautiful and transformative, but it is not a magic pill. It is for people who want to take the time to do serious healing work. It may be difficult for some, it may be full of bliss and love for others, as the shipibo say, the medicine always gives you what you need.
A Dieta is a deeper way of working with the medicine. It involves the discipline and offering of fasting from certain foods, a series of ceremonies and the simultaneous partaking of another healing plant. It is the way they heal illnesses in the body as well as the way the Shipibo become healers; Curanderos.
The diet consists of no salt, sugar, spice, alcohol, pork, nor sex for the 10 days, and a series of at least 5 ceremonies. After the dieta is closed, you can eat flavored food again, however there is a follow-up post dieta which consists of no pork, alcohol nor sex for 20 days afterwards; “The Big 3”. It is a total of a one month commitment.
The dieta will take you deeper than a ceremony. It has a synergistic envelope as you enter in communion with the medicine for a full month. It is for the more serious seeker. It is a beautiful commitment to yourself and your path. If you are a healer or are on a healing or meditation path, a dieta is a wonderful way to take it to the next level. To cleanse yourself of any energies you may have picked up along the way and go deeper.
If you have a certain illness that you would seriously like to work on during the dieta, please let us know as our Maestro could make a specific plant tonic for you to work with and diet for your healing. Many people have cured themselves of cancers, rheumatism, arthritis, food addictions, drug addictions and even AIDS, dieting specific plants along with Ayahuasca. I have seen and heard first hand and watched people who have been sick for years and years suddenly become well. It truly is an incredible gift.
